Poetry

Poems use patterns, timing, imagery, and writers’ tricks (similes, metaphors) to paint a picture in our head.

Practise reading by yourself, then read out loud, then read with a buddy.

  • Read all the poem.
  • Check words you don’t understand.
  • Look for patterns that are the same- alliteration is when words start the same way, assonance is when they rhyme with vowels.
ACTIVITIES:
  • Record yourself on Vocaroo to see what you sound like!
  • Go to INTO THE BOOK and practice VISUALISING

We are learning to read fluently.

We will know this when we:

  1.  Read out loud, slow down at commas and wait at fullstops
  2. Self correct if we make a mistake
  3. Try to read it without errors several times
  4. We sound like we are speaking normally when we read the poem
