Stories are written to entertain people or to give a message.
- Skim through the title page, the pictures and think about what your book is about.
- Read each page. Check the tricky words out. Find out what they mean.
- Re-read the story. Think about the different parts of the story.
- Summarise your story in a comic or in three parts to retell it. Use a sentence for each part with a picture. Include the place, the time, the people or animals, the problem and what happened.

- Can describe the beginning (ORIENTATION/INTRODUCTION)
- Can say who is in the story (CHARACTERS)
- Can say where and when the story is set (SETTING)
- Can say what the problem is (COMPLICATION)
- Can describe the middle of the story (SERIES OF EVENTS)
- Can say what happened (EVENTS- things that happened)
- We put the events in the right order (CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER- first, second, third)
- Can describe the ending of the story (CONCLUSION)
- Can say how the problem was solved (RESOLUTION)
